SFM Newsletter-July 10, 2015


I saw this great recipe for roast chicken with peaches with and lavender honey. The trick of course is finding lavender or lavender honey, but I bet some herbs de Provence would do the trick. But we've definitely got chicken and peaches at the market. 

Here's what we've got lined up for tomorrow!

All Grown Up:

Canteloupe, watermelons and honeydew. tomatoes, lettuce, variety of peppers, blueberies (possible), hydroponic Persian cucumbers and okra. Plus oregano and thyme.

 


Grassfed beef, pastured pork, free range eggs and meat variety packs.

 

Bread Basket:

Lemon chess pie, blackberry pie, English muffin bread. And the usual sourdough, multigrain and gluten free bread, dinner rolls, coffee cakes, granola, apple hand pies donuts and more!

 

Cherry Hill Farm:
Away tomorrow with a family illness...

 

Correll Farm (Now accepting EBT/SNAP):

TOMATOES. (Pinks, purple, tiger stripe, Roma, cherry and grape). Local canteloupes. Peppers (white and purple bell, green, sweet banana, cubanelle, pablano, hot banana, jalepeƱo, cayenne), MINI bell peppers (great for stuffing), potatoes onions garlic and maybe cantaloupes


 

Dover Vineyard:
Gone this week.

 

Eagle Produce Farm:
Pink eyed purple hull peas (pictured above), Virginia sweets, Roma, cherry, Cherokee purple, German Johnson and a few other tomatoes. Bell, jalepeno and banana peppers. Cucumbers, squash, zuchhini (yellow and green), okra, and still bringing in greenhouse tomatoes if you want those good heritage breeds! (Those will be a few more weeks before they start coming out of the field).

 

Funky Pepper:
Homemade salsa, mustard and more...

 

How Sweet It Is:
Usual items include: morning muffins (lemon, blueberry and harvest), pound cake, coffee cake, chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter cookies and more!

 

Lee's Fresh Flowers and Vegetables:

Fresh hard neck garlic,  malabar spinach,  radishes, cherry tomatoes.

Oriental Lily, statics, liatris, zinnias, gladiolus, sunflowers, pineapple lily, crocosmia, dahlias, sweet william, bachelor buttons. (Bouquet pictured above)

 

McCombs & Company:
Fresh, high quality pimento cheese, homemade chicken salad, plus slaw and spicy snack crackers. The "firecrackers" are killer with pimento cheese!

 

Miller Produce:
SWEET CORN. With this dry weather,  supply has been tight so come early and hope for more rain... Green beans, bell peppers, squash and cucumbers. (As well as peaches, watermelons and canteloupe from off-farm.)

 


Red snapper, striped bass, monkfish, flounder, grouper, arctic char, grouper, cod, whole rainbow trout, wahoo, mahi mahi, yellowfin tuna, scottish salmon, sea scallops (lg & jumbo), shrimp (lg & jumbo), VA oysters, littleneck clams, halibut

 

Pruett Farm:

Blackberries, blueberries, tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, okra, elephant garlic, green beans, Swiss Chard

 

Treehouse Soaps:
NEW: The return of Goatmilk Lemongrass and NEW is Dragons Blood, in addition to natural and chemical-free bug spray, other recent soaps: Citrus Loofa, Bamboo Forest, cooling mint, soothing oatmeal, shaving soap, unscented and more.

 

Two Pigs Farm:
PEACHES (no-sprays). Free range eggs, beef, pork, chicken, duck, turkey. No spray veggies: summer squash, zucchini, tomatoes, onions, garlic, and Swiss chard.
