SFM Newsletter- June 20th

Salisbury Rowan Farmers' Market
June
20, 2015
(Header image from Cherry Hill Farm showing rows of brassica, onion and tomato plants).
Keep doing your rain dance y'all... this dry summer is causing trouble on more than a few of our farms! The little bit we got last night still leaves us behind...

Coming in this week we've still got plenty of cole crops like kohlrabi, cabbage, greens like Swiss Chard, plus, tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, blueberries and more...

Be advised that the Salisbury Pride festival is happening tomorrow downtown. It should be a lot of fun. Starting around 11AM, it probably won't affect the Farmers' Market much. But if you're concerned about parking (which I doubt), come early and you shouldn't have any problems!
(Plus it will be a tad cooler and the selection will be better!)

Here's what we've got lined up for tomorrow!
All Grown Up:
Hydroponic Persian cucumbers, baby lettuce and spicy greens. Swiss Chard and slicing cucumbers out of the field and more!

Bame Farms:
Grassfed beef, pastured pork, free range eggs and meat variety packs.

Bread Basket:
Bluebery, peach and pecan pies, shreaded wheat bread and the usual sourdough, multigrain and gluten free bread, coffee cakes, granola, donuts and more!

Cherry Hill Farm (New vendor this year):
Squash, cucumbers, broccoli, green and red cabbage, carrots, onions, and eggs.

Correll Farm (Now accepting EBT/SNAP):
TOMATOES, bell peppers, banana peppers, japanese eggplant and a huge variety of summer squash and cucumbers. Red and yellow sweet onions, fresh garlic and leeks and possibly beets. And still bringing in leafy green veggies like celery, kohlrabi, kale, collards, Swiss chard, and cabbage. Plus fresh herbs including, basil, parsley, oregano, and cilantro.

Country Garden:
Country Garden was there last week with green beans... they might be there again this week!

Dover Vineyards:
Delicious dry red and rose wines. Some of the best in North Carolina produced right down the road in Concord.

Eagle Produce Farm:
Roma, cherry, Cherokee purple, German Johnson and a few other tomatoes. Bell, jalepeno and banana peppers. Cucumbers, squash, zuchhini (yellow and green), lettuce, spring onions, cauliflower, okra (limited supply), and still bringing in greenhouse tomatoes if you want those good heritage breeds! (Those will be a few more weeks before they start coming out of the field).

How Sweet It Is:
Layered decadent chocolate cake, peanut butter, old fashioned sugar, molasses, black bottoms, plus the usual morning muffins (lemon, blueberry and harvest), pound cake, coffee cake, chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter cookies and more!
