SFM Newsletter- 5/16/2015


Here's what we've got lined up for tomorrow!:
NEW: Cherry Hill Farm:
Participants of the Rowan County Farm school, Justin and Holly are new to the Salisbury Farmers' Market! In their initial offering they'll have: collards, cilantro and squash. They're on twitter if you do that sort of thing: twitter.com/cherryhillag

Lee's Fresh Flowers & Vegetables:
Sunday is mother's day and I'll wager many of you will want to stop by Lee's booth early (she basically sold out of flowers last week). She's got peonies, irises, sweet williams and bachelor buttons. Also: swiss chards, spring onion, radishes, green garlic, sweet bok choi, pea shoots, mint and cilantro

 

Miller Produce:
Mike & co are offering the first field squash and cucumbers of the season. Summer is just around the corner... Plus plenty more Camarosa strawberries, greens and beautiful heads of lettuce.

 

Correll Farm (Now accepting EBT/SNAP):

Broccoli, Cauliflower, Asparagus, fresh Cabbage, Collards, Kale, Swiss Chard, Broccoli Raab, Napa cabbage, Radishes, Kohlrabi, Fennel Garlic, Leeks, and Sweet Onions.  We will also have fresh cut herbs including, Basil, Parsley, Oregano, and Cilantro.

 

Eagle Produce Farm:
Kale and mustard greens. Strawberries. Greenhouse tomatoes, squash, zucchini, cucumbers and more

Two Pigs Farm:
"No-spray" strawberries, free range eggs, ground turkey, whole turkey (by request only), pork, cornish hens. Kale, swiss chard, spinach and more...


Lee's Fresh Flowers and Vegetables:
Irises, bachelors button, peonies, other flowers. Swiss chards, spring onion, radishes, and green garlic

How Sweet It Is:
Morning muffins, pound cake, coffee cake, cookies and more!

 

Country Garden:
Selling strawberries, an assortment of plants and more...

 

Treehouse Soaps:
New: Shaving soap designed specifically for shaving (with conditioning, moisturizing oils & butters, plus clay for "slip"), Beer super lather soap, Goat milk sweet ginger (new)

Bread Basket:

Yeast bread, sweet bread, coffee cakes, pies, donuts, fried pies, granola, gluten and sugar free items. (New) multigrain bread and hummingbird cake.

 


It's a big week for seafood: Whole Rainbow Trout, Black Drum, Yellowfin Tuna, Yellowtail Snapper Whole, Swordfish, Cod, Flounder, Mahi Mahi, Grouper, Pompano, Salmon (Faroe Island Scotland), Lg & Jumbo Sea Scallops, Large  & Jumbo Shrimp, Lump Crab Meat, VA Oysters, Crab Cakes.

 

The Funky Pepper:
Homemade jams, jellies and mustard

Bame Farms (A new vendor this year):
Grassfed beef, pastured pork, free range eggs and meat variety packs
.

Farm-to-table fundraiser Sunday:
"Riot in the Pasture" is a great opportunity to meet your farmer outside the farmers' market. We'll have music and activities from 3-7 at Morgan Ridge Vineyards, with dinner at 5:30.
Here's the menu:

  • Whole hog barbecue from Two Pigs Farm and Wild Turkey Farms. (Vote for your favorite pitmaster/farm!) Buns with NC flour from the Bread Basket.
  • Salty Caper Pizza with NC flour, Eagle farm tomatoes, and Correll farm basil pesto.
  • Miller Produce mixed greens salad with blackberry/chambourcin wine vinaigrette
  • Correll Farms collard green slaw
  • Lee's Bok Choi sautée with sweet potatoes and red wine mushrooms
  • Third Creek Cottage Gardens Chicken Pot Pie
  • MikNik Farm hushpuppies glazed with local honey butter
  • Barbee Farms sweet potato salad
  • Homeland Creamery ice cream with no-spray strawberries from Katie's Farm and granola from the Bread Basket

The event benefits both the Farmers' Market and Bread Riot, our partner nonprofit. Lawn chairs encourage, pop-up tents welcome. Outside drink not allowed with few exceptions.

This week we will feature singer and guitarist (with a dash of ukulele), Sue McHugh, "Chickweed" organizer. (July 18th music festival by and for women, benefitting the battered women's shelter.)
