Wild Turkey Farms News- February 4, 2011

The new year is off to a good start at Wild Turkey Farms. Baby animals are popping up all over the place. Since our last newsletter we've had about 30 pigs and 7 or 8 lambs born. If you've been getting our emails long enough you know that a sure sign of lambing season is at least 1 lamb occupying the bathroom at our house, well this year is no different. So far we are on our 2nd boarder in 2 weeks. The first one didn't fare too well but the second has already decided that she likes life in a climate controlled bathroom, getting room service, and hanging out with our dog Mel all day. Usually the naming protocol (from Rosty & Charlie) for bathroom raised lambs is that they get a name with "cake" in it. Thus 2009 gave us "Cupcake" and 2010 gave us "Poundcake". This year they decided to break ranks a bit and go with "Ice Cream" but I guess that still go! es with "Cake" in a roundabout way.

Wild Turkey Farms CSA 2011- Community Supported Agriculture or CSA is a relationship between a food producer and food consumers. This buying concept was sprouted from the idea that the customer was investing in a particular farm business they respected by buying a CSA share, similar to buying stock in a company. Our plan is to offer shares for a 10 week period starting mid-late April. We will have a weekly box of our fresh organically grown produce in $12 and $20 shares available. We haven't ironed out all of the details but ours will be with the option to add items like eggs or meats to your weekly pick up. Shares will be available to pick up at the farm during the week. The available shares are being spoken for quickly so if you are interested please email us to be put on the list.

Day Of The Pig 2011- Wild Turkey Farms & Chef Charles Catering are proud to offer our 1 of a kind Charcuterie Workshop again this year. Once again we will have a full day of exploring the ancient art of transforming a whole pig into delicious cuts, sausages, cured meats, and pates. Class size is limited to maximize hands on, individual instruction so sign up soon. A gourmet wine lunch prepared by Chef Charles and his team is provided.
