SFM Newsletter 08/15/15


Salisbury Rowan Farmers' Market
August
15, 2015
We've got a couple vendors gone this week, including (but not limited to): Bame, Correll and Dover. Wednesday market will go through the end of August. 
 
We'll be having our Youth Market Chef September 19th. And our nonprofit partner, Bread Riot, will be helping the Center for the Environment host a screening of "Resistance" on September 17th.
 
This week's musician(s):
Jay Corriher, Dusty Newton and Matthew Sloop call themselves Whispering Pines. They play rootsy Americana music...a mix of originals and covers. They're so new they don't have anything up on Youtube!
 
Here's what we've got lined up for tomorrow!
All Grown Up:
Tomatoes, lettuce, a big variety of peppers both hot and mild. Persian cucumbers. Plus okra, green beans, kale, arugula and possibly a few melons. Plus oregano and thyme.
 
Grassfed beef, pastured pork, free range eggs and meat variety packs.
 
Bread Basket:
Cinammon swirl bread, wheat and sourdough bread, cherry hand pies, dinner rolls, assorted pies, granola and donuts.
 
Correll Farm: Gone...    
They'll be at the Woodleaf Tomato festival.
 
Dover Vineyard:
Gone this week.
 
Eagle Produce Farm (Accepts WIC/Senior FMNP Vouchers):
They had purple hull pink eye peas Wednesday, but weren't sure if they'd be available this weekend. A variety of slicing and cherry tomatoes including Virginia sweet, Cherokee purple, better boy, German Johnson, Big Beef, Crista, Roma. A variety of potatoes inclusing blue, Yukon gold. And eggplant. Also: a variety of peppers, green beans, cucumbers, squash (including patty pan), zucchini (yellow and green). SC peaches. GA onions. Canteloupe.
 
Funky Pepper:
Back this week!
 
Annuals, perennials, shrubs, crepe myrtles, hanging baskets, herbs and more...
 
How Sweet It Is:
(Recent lineup, which has frequent slight changes) Cinnamon buns, "black bottoms". Cakes: pound cake, chocolate, lemon, vanilla. Brownies (Butterscotch & triple chocolate) Cookies: sugar, choc. chip, molasses, peanut butter. And her usual items including: morning muffins (lemon, blueberry and harvest), pound cake, coffee cake, chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter cookies and more!
 
Lee's Fresh Flowers and Vegetables (Accepts WIC/Senior FMNP Vouchers):
Baby bok choi, regular bok choi, thai hot chili peppers, thai eggplant, green onion, cherry tomatoes, green beans, purple top turnips, malabar spinach.
Statics, zinnias, sunflowers, tuberoses, dahlias.
 
McCombs & Company:
New egg salad, plus their well-known, top-notch pimento cheese, homemade chicken salad, plus slaw and spicy snack crackers. The "firecrackers" are killer with pimento cheese!
 
Miller Produce (Accepts WIC/Senior FMNP Vouchers):
Purple Hull Field Peas are back. Plus Silver King sweet corn. Also: green beans, bell peppers, tomatoes, squash, cucumbers. (As well as Huffman peaches and watermelons from Rowan County.)
 
Last week's list: Bluefin Tuna, Swordfish, King Mackerel, Flounder, Grouper, Mahi Mahi, Yellowfin Tuna, Scottish Salmon, Halibut, Codfish, Whole Rainbow Trout, Snow Crab Legs, Lobster Tails, Littleneck Clams, Lg Sea Scallops, Jumbo Sea Scallops, Large Shrimp, Peeled & Deveined Shrimp, VA Oysters
 
Pruett Farm:
Spaghetti squash, tomatoes, cucumbers, yellow squash, zucchini, okra. And possibly beets (the last of his summer beets).
 
Treehouse Soaps:
Natural bug repellent, and "soap, soap, soap!" Some recent soaps: Star anise, Citrus Loofa, Bamboo Forest, cooling mint, soothing oatmeal, shaving soap, unscented and more.
 
Two Pigs Farm (Accepts WIC/Senior FMNP Vouchers):
Free range eggs, beef, pork, chicken, duck, turkey. No spray veggies: potatoes and tomatoes.
 
Upside Down Farms:
I'm not totally sure if they're gonna be there or not!
